The design brief called for a contemporary alteration and addition to the existing residence, including a first-floor addition above the contemporary rear extension.
The proposal reimagines the ground floor layout to create a more functional, open and inviting living environment, designed to enhance everyday family life. A strong emphasis was placed on maximising natural light and strengthening the connection between the interior and the surrounding garden through carefully positioned openings and generous glazing.
A key design challenge was achieving a seamless transition between the original dwelling and the new contemporary addition. This was resolved through a thoughtful composition of form, innovative detailing and a carefully curated material palette. The result is a cohesive design outcome that respects the character of the existing home while expressing a distinct contemporary identity, allowing both old and new elements to complement one another without compromising the overall design integrity.
